Blood Moon Rising…

Between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm tonight – we had a lunar eclipse – on Australia’s East Coast.

Only happens every 7 years or so – and all day the skies were totally cloudless – then (right on cue at 6:45pm) thin wispy clouds rolled in.  Just enough to make photography almost impossible. And the camera has a mind of it’s own, far easier to focus on the tree, than any other stuff in the range finder.

I’ll try again in 2014.

Wonderful pictures and inspiring, reminding me to sharpen up my photographic skills. I have invested in a new camera and will load it with a roll of good quality film. But when and where to go in search for those perfect images of my world. What is the key to a good picture: the light? the composition? what subject matter will capture forever that unique moment? Captivated by the sensuality and visual strategies of the writings of Marcel Proust, the 20th century photographer Brassaï wrote:
“In his battle against Time, that enemy of our precarious existence, ever on the offensive though never openly so, it was in photography, also born of an age-old longing to halt the moment, to wrest it from the flux of duration in order to ‘fix’ it forever in a semblance of eternity, that Proust found his best ally.”
